Objective

After successful completion of the course, participants will successfully
1) develop the ability to follow news in French over a prolonged period of time
2) follow the main currents of events
3) practice and develop their listening comprehension in French
4) practice and develop their capacity for critical analysis.

Content

This course can be completed either at the University of Lapland (during any period) or during a student exchange or an internship in a French-speaking country. Students follow news for eight consecutive weeks on various medias : press, social networks, radio, television.
They keep a diary, taking down the main news of the day, and following the developments over the chosen period. The diary will be written in French. It is to be 10-12 pages long (standard font size 11).

Qualifications

Level B1 of the CEFR (the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), e.g. the following courses offered by the Language Center: French: Repetition Course, French: Reading Comprehension, French: Project & Networking Skills.
