Objective
Upon successful completion of the course, the doctoral candidate will:
- be familiar with funding opportunities in Finland for doctoral research
- know how to put together a funding application, CV, research plan and budget
- know how to put together a communication plan for his/her research
- know how to choose the most appropriate publication channel
- be familiar with the basics of open access publishing, research portals and researcher identifiers
Content
The course comprises of lectures as well as group and individual tasks dealing with the following:
- the different parts of a typical funding application
- science communication
- scientific publication

Further information
The course is given twice during the academic year, in autumn in Finnish, in spring in English. You may complete the assignments in English or Finnish.
Execution methods
A one- to two-page research plan on the participant’s thesis to be sent in advance, at the latest one week prior to the first session. Four days of lectures and group discussions and the completion of assignments given by the lecturers: revising the research plan (or other assignment specified by the lecturer) and writing a publication and communication plan.
Accomplishment methods
Active participation in the lectures and discussions, completion of course assignments. Attendance requirement min. 80 %.
