Teaching methods

The aim is for students to develop and strengthen the English language skills acquired in previous studies in order to cope with the professional English studies at the university of applied sciences.

The student is encouraged and motivated to use English. The student is able to effectively utilize dictionaries and grammars as well as other sources for independent language development.

The aim is for the student to achieve at least a B1 level on a 6-point scale of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Students do written and spoken learning assignments independently or in pairs.

- Expanding the general vocabulary
- Vocabulary related to study and working life
- Oral and written exercises
- Listening comprehension exercises
- Reading comprehension exercises
- Instructions for learning English with supporting resources, e.g. use of dictionaries and use of the Internet.

Exam schedules

There will be a written test which must be accomplished successfully by the end of the course.
Students are allowed to re-do the test twice successfully to receive a passing grade.

Completion alternatives

This 5 ECTS course requires 133 hours of students’ workload.
There will be 6 sessions according to the course schedule, during which students will carry out guided pair/team work.
Students are required to prepare for the class sessions in advance by reading the assigned course materials, written tasks that are to be submitted prior to the Zoom sessions according to the instructions.
In addition to the contact sessions, students must do self-studies in order to activate their own language skills.

Assessment methods and criteria

• Active and regular participation in lessons (mandatory 80% attendance), participation in minimum 5 Zoom lessons
• Preparing for lessons and self-study
• Successful completion of oral and written exercises
• Evaluation Scale: Pass – Fail
