Content scheduling

Objective
The learning objectives are as follows: - Students understand the basics of food education for children under school age - Students understand the basics and purpose of nutritional recommendations - Students understand their role as positive, child-centered food educators - Students gain the skills to implement food education in practice
Content
The topics covered in this course are: - The basics of sustainable, encouraging, and enjoyable food education - Sustainable and health-promoting dietary recommendations and choices - The basics of child-centered food education - Reflecting on your role as a food educator
Location and time
1 December 2025 – 31 July 2026 Metropolia Moodle online course. Continuous enrolment between 1 December 2025 – 30 June 2026. Moodle will be opened to students on 8 December 2025. The online course does not include any compulsory scheduled meetings. Moodle assignments are to be completed in the given order; however, students may progress at their own pace during the course. Teachers will review the completions every two months: in February, April, June, and August.
Materials
The implementation of the course will be in Finnish. The study materials will be provided in the Metropolia Moodle learning environment. The materials are based on the following recommendations: Health and joy from food – Early childhood education dietary guidelines 2018 Sustainable health from food – National nutrition guidelines 2024
Teaching methods
The course is studied independently online in the Metropolia Moodle learning environment, without restrictions of time or place. The methods include independently studied course material and related learning assignments. The materials and reflective tasks involve reading, listening, and writing.

Exam schedules
The course does not include an exam, but a passing grade requires completion and submission of assignments according to the instructions. In the final test, the student will have the opportunity to assess their own competence.
