Objective

After completing the course, you will be able to model 3D constructs and create assemblies from them. You will be able to effectively use the parameters of a feature-based 3D modelling program and understand the logic of modelling.

Content

1. Surface models - Lines and features in surface modelling - Analysis of lines - Making and modifying surfaces - Analysing and editing surface models 2. Parametric modelling - Creating dependencies at sketch level - Creating dependencies of features - Configurable models - Creating a parametric model using a spreadsheet 3. Simulations - 3D model kinematics simulations - Simulation of the physical properties of a 3D model

Location and time

The course begins on 12 January 2026. The course ends on 31 December 2026.

Materials

The material will be published in the Moodle workspace of the course.

Teaching methods

The studies are completed entirely online via Metropolia’s Moodle learning environment and, if necessary, through the Zoom or Teams platforms. The studies consist of instructional videos, written material, and practical assignments. You may complete the studies independently at your own pace within the study schedule. Support workshops led by the teacher are organised every 2–3 weeks during the study period, excluding holidays.

Exam schedules

You can choose the exam date from the following options: Exam submission deadline: March 15, 2026 Exam submission deadline: May 24, 2026 Exam submission deadline: September 1, 2026 Exam submission deadline: October 18, 2026 Exam submission deadline: November 30, 2026 (final assessment. After this date, exam submissions will not be accepted.) You may attempt the exam three (3) times. The highest grade will be recorded. If you have not completed the exam by the final submission date (November 30, 2026) or have received a failing grade, you can still obtain a passing grade (grade 1) if you have completed at least 50% of the assignments. Metropolia reserves the right to make changes to the assessment criteria if necessary.

Student workload

The credit value of the course unit is 4 credits. 1 credit equals 27 hours of student work. 108 hours must be allocated for completing the studies.
