Objective

You are able to plan, implement and evaluate the daily activities of patient or customer care in a responsible way.
You know how to work aseptically.
You are able to administer enteral and parenteral medications safely. You know how to guide patients in a way that promotes health.
You are able to interact professionally with patients, customers, relatives and staff. You can define your professional identity and develop your professional skills in terms of nursing competence and responsibilities.

Teaching methods

Students participate in the Safety in Nursing -course and all Nursing Interventions Workshops (basic care, supporting breathing, assessing blood circulation etc.)
After that start the 6 week Basic Care Practical Training, A72D013-3002 Guided Practice in Social and in Health Care Environments (10 cr), in spring 2026, during weeks 13 – 22 (23.3. – 31.5.2026)

The students, set their own personal goals for learning after one week of training, and perform continuous self-assessment.

Student workload

The working hours for the practical training placement are 38 h 45 min. / week
For six weeks, the total hours are 230,7.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The practical training that develops professional skills is assessed on a Pass (H)/Fail (0) basis

Pass:
You are able to plan, implement and evaluate the daily activities of patient or customer care in a responsible way.
You know how to work aseptically.
You are able to administer enteral and parenteral medications safely. You know how to guide patients in a way that promotes health.
You are able to interact professionally with patients, customers, relatives and staff. You can define your professional identity and develop your professional skills in terms of nursing competence and responsibilities.

Fail:
You are not able to plan, implement and evaluate the daily activities of patient or customer care in a responsible way.
You do not know how to work aseptically.
You are not able to administer enteral and parenteral medications safely.
You do not know how to guide patients in a way that promotes health.
You are not able to interact professionally with patients, customers, relatives and staff. You are not able to define your professional identity and develop your professional skills in terms of nursing competence and responsibilities.
