Objective
The objective of the course is to advance the knowledge of Finnish basic vocabulary and structures so that the students can communicate orally and textually in moderately easy everyday situations. In addition, the participants get acquainted with some special features of Finnish culture and can make comparisons between culture in Finland and in their home country.
Having completed the course, the students will be able
1) to talk about themselves and manage simple conversations and service situations
2) to write simple messages and understand simple texts dealing with everyday routines
3) to master basic grammatical issues, different sentence types, and salient basic vocabulary
4) to achieve level A2.1 of the CEFR (the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
Execution methods
Group meetings 36 hours and independent work 45 hours. To complete the course, you have to actively participate in the exercises, complete your assignments and work independently on what you have learned.
Accomplishment methods
Regular attendance (80%) in group meetings, active participation in exercises, completing individual and group assignments. Final exam.
Content
All sectors of language skills are practiced on the course: pronunciation, speech, speech comprehension, writing, reading, and grammar. However, the main emphasis is on studying the structures of basic grammar and practicing oral skills and speech comprehension.
Materials
The students acquire the course book themselves.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
5-1/fail based on class work, homework, and the final exam.
Qualifications
The course is available to those who have completed the Finnish for Foreigners 2 / Finnish 2 course and to those with corresponding skills (CEFR level A1.3).
