Objective

Having completed this study unit
• You have got a holistic view of the northern and the arctic environments, the role of clean nature in tourism and trends of nature tourism, such as nature-based luxury tourism.
• You understand the impacts of climate change and importance of biodiversity at a global and local level in relation to tourism phenomenon.
• You have a basic understanding of the concept of tourism carrying capacity.
• You develop your knowledge of Lapland in general and the characteristics of tourism in the Northern and the Arctic regions.
• You are able to take into consideration special features of the local environment as well as the cultural and social aspects as part of nature-based luxury tourism.
• You will familiarise yourself with the Sami culture and cultural sensitivity in tourism.
• You become familiar with the concept of regenerative tourism.
• You understand the significance of the multispecies wellbeing which takes into account the local environment and communities as well as the wellbeing of animals and wildlife.
