Objective
The aim of the course is to introduce students to poems and short stories in English and help them understand how writers in these two genres use the tools of their craft in their writing to create meaning and achieve their artistic aims.
After successful completion of the course, the student will be able
1) to analyze poems and short stories in English
2) to understand how writers in these two genres use the tools of their craft to create meaning and achieve their artistic aims.
Execution methods
Homework (reading), class discussions in small groups and in a whole-class format, 36 h.
Accomplishment methods
A final paper analyzing a short story chosen by the teacher, active participation in class discussions, regular attendance.
Content
Poems from various periods of British and American literature, modern English-language short stories.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
5-1/fail based on the final paper and class participation.
Qualifications
Upper secondary school or equivalent.
