Objective

Objectives
The objective of the course is to provide students the opportunity to deepen their awareness and understanding of conceptual frameworks and best (managerial) practices in the field of Knowledge and Network Management.
The learning objectives for this course are to have students:
1. Understand the key concepts of network-based economy, strategic network management and network –based business models.
2. Apply specific methods to analyze business networks, identify actors and diagram value transactions in networks.
3. Develop practical insights of strategic shift in business nets.
4. Critically evaluate different approaches in Knowledge and Network management.

Content

Leading knowledge and networks course provides students with knowledge and skills to understand business network management principles and apply knowledge and network management strategies to create, manage and develop business networks.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

0. The student did not submit the course assignments or these assignments did not meet the minimal quality requirements presented in the class.
Grades 1-2: The student understands mostly correctly the subject matter concepts and is able to apply them. However, the strategic network and knowledge management challenges and recommendations provided are rather general and not elaborated in details.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Grades 3-4: The student understands very well the subject matter concepts and is able to apply them correctly. The student also understands well strategic networks, network-based business models and the exploitation of network effects and the key issues of knowledge management in a network context and their impacts on the sustainability and profitability of a company. Additionally, the student is able to give useful development recommendations utilizing his/her knowledge and skills on the subject.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Grade 5: The student understands deeply the subject matter concepts and is able to apply them correctly. The student also understands well and is able to analyze critically different factors in the design and implementation of network-based business strategies and models, understands the practical application of knowledge leadership perspectives as key element in developing, sourcing, mobilizing and exploiting knowledge resources in a network context. In addition, the student is able to give useful development recommendations utilizing his/her knowledge and skills on the subject.

Materials

Literature will consist of research articles as well as case studies that will be made available in Moodle.

Teaching methods

The teaching method will be a combination of seminar-type online lectures and discussions, teamwork, presentations and individual assignment.
The learning process will be student driven. The critical thinking skills are encouraged and nurtured as a core part of the outcome. The students are couraged to demonstrate active involvement and meaningful contributions to class discussions and the learning process. The practical orientation is accomplished through development work.
