DEGREE1. BUSINESS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
At the present day, the world economy is facing digital transformation. Different stages of economic activities and processes are getting digitalized and data is becoming a new commodity. Availability of data and data analytics opens new business opportunities and enables the digital transformation of enterprises. Following these new opportunities, we are facing the appearance of smart, connected products and digital service ecosystems which transform the competitive environment and business processes. Information and communication technologies (ICT) integrated into business models and processes are changing the way we are living, working, studying, and being entertained. Companies and organizations begin realizing that digital transformation is not just a technical change, but a much more fundamental shift in the mindset. The latter implies the change in business models, organizational structures, strategies, data analytics, and ICT tools which require reconsideration and new approaches.
The Degree Programme in Business Information Technology (DP BIT) leads to the degree Bachelor of Business Administration. The main focus of this Degree Programme is on enabling and supporting digital transformation of enterprises. The objective of this curriculum is to provide you with competencies to participate in and contribute to the digitalization of enterprises. During the studies, you realize the evolving role of ICT solutions, such as smart, connected products and digital service, digital processes and strategies in the modern digital economy. Additionally, you learn how to analyze the enterprise environment to recognize and capture the potential business value of digital transformation.
STRUCTURE OF THE DEGREE Structure and syllabus of the studies
The DP BIT has the following overall curriculum structure:
1) Basic and Professional Studies 150 ECTS
2) Practical Training 30 ECTS
3) Electives 10 ECTS
4) Bachelor’s Thesis 20 ECTS (including Research and Development Methods)
The objectives of Basic Studies include providing you with essential knowledge and skills required in operations of the digital enterprise, including the ICT infrastructure and solutions. Basic Studies build up theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the chosen area to provide necessary background for professional studies. Additionally, you are provided with the language skills required by the Polytechnic Act, 1129/2014, 2­5 §.
The objectives of Professional Studies include providing you with specialized knowledge and skills in ICT solutions development and in facilitating digital transformation of enterprises. Additionally, Professional Studies include a possibility for specialisation when you can choose among several ICT job profiles and acquire relevant competencies.
Practical Training offers you an opportunity to apply the professional competencies in the working life context. In addition, you become familiar with the enterprise environment, practices, implemented ICT solutions and their business use and users. You also learn about different ICT job profiles and various activities and responsibilities belonging to them.
Electives contribute to your personal development by supplementing mandatory studies with subjects of your own interest and personal preferences. You can take elective modules from other degree programmes and/or other higher­education institutions. Finally, in the Bachelor’s Thesis project you apply professional competencies to conduct research and development work according to the chosen specialisation.
IMPLEMENTATION AND EVALUATION OF THE STUDIESQuality management
A university of applied sciences is responsible for the quality and continuous development of the education it provides and other operations, and it regularly participates in external quality assessments.
Lapin AMK’s Quality System is described in Lapin AMK’s Quality Manual. Degree programme quality management is carried out according to the procedures described in Lapin AMK’s Quality Manual.

This competence is achieved when:
- You know the role of ICT in digital transformation of an enterprise, and you are able to recommend the appropriate ICT solutions according to the business strategy.
- You know the core elements and foundational capabilities of smart, connected products and digital service, including related technology infrastructure and skillsets.
- You are able to analyze business environment to identify development opportunities and requirements for the ICT solutions.
- You know different sourcing models and their appropriateness for the business requirements.


In accordance with the strategy of Lapland UAS you understand the foundational elements and factors of entrepreneurship and service business and are able to determine the appropriate sourcing options for ICT solutions.
